William "Buck" GOODRUM b.1811 Ga. d.1853 Fl.
+Mary RICHARDS GOODRUM b.1815 Ga. m.abt. 1831 or 1832 probably in
Georgia. Shortly after they moved to the panhandle of Florida. The
Goodrum's lived in Jackson & Calhoun Co. They are found on page 192 of
the 1840 census of Jackson Co. Fl.
Wm. B. GOODRUM is found in the records of those who served in the
Florida War of 1838. He's listed as 2nd Corporal in Richards' Friendly
Indians (Mtd) on 04-23-1838.
The 1850 U.S. census of Calhoun Co. Fl. (Now Gulf Co.) shows Goodrum on
pg. 1 5th. Division, household #3 dated 10-14-1850 W.B GOODRUM 39 m. b.

**** William Buck Goodrum received a land grant, by President Martin Van
Buren. Certificate #5731 dated 04-23-1838 for lot #2 fractional section
2, T6s, R9W containing 21.23 acres in Calhoun Co. It is recorded in
Tallahassee, Fl. General Land Office on July 28, 1838.
This land is located on the west side of the Applachicola River. The
GOODRUM'S ran a ferry on this river. Wm. "Buck" has been described
as a
short stock man weighing near 300 lbs. It's said he could hoist a full
whiskey barrel alone.
Wm. GOODRUM has been found on the 1846, 1849, 1850, 1851 & 1852 tax
records these records indicate the he was paying taxed on 31 acres & at
times had as many as 60 head of cattle. He probably died about 1853, his
name no longer appears on the tax rolls after this date & his last child
was born in 1850. Widow, Mary "Polly" RICHARDS GOODRUM & her 1st.
cousin, Camilla RICHARDS SIMMONS, widow of Wm. P. SIMMONS, came to Texas
abt. 1858.
About 1860 the GOODRUM'S & SIMMONS families were settled in southwest
Houston Co. near the town of Weldon. In the History of Houston Co. book
written by Vivian Goodrum (daughter of Burton Goodrum) "Polly Goodrum
aka Mary Richards Goodrum came to Henderson, Tx. 1858 on a wagon train.
She brought 4 children, Bob, Ben, Betty, & Van. Polly's family settled
in Weldon, Houston Co. Tx. in 1859. The last record on Mary RICHARDS
GOODRUM is 1860 U.S. of Houston Co. Tx., page 75 Beat #5Household 496.

Mary RICHARDS GOODRUM is buried in an abandoned cemetery in the Wm.
DILLARD survey east of Weldon Tx. on the John HANNA Place. This is past
the Weldon Cemetery. Tommy Knox & Marty Cash looked for discovere a pond
dam is most likely on top of it.
